Telephone Calls: To make a long distance phone call, you must dial 00. You will be required to use your credit card or calling card when making long distance calls. All local phone calls are free of charge between St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix, however we caution you that calls between the U.S.V.I. and all other Caribbean islands can be quite expensive.
Power Outages: Occasionally we have power "outages" which can last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. If your electricity goes out, our whole-house generator will switch on and supply the home with electricity until the power resumes. If the generator does not turn on - please call us to check on the situation for you. If, in the rare event the generator does not switch on, and you are without electricity, please do not run any water. The water is supplied electrically through a pump and running faucets or flushing the toilet may cause the pump to lose its prime and the water pipe system to become air-locked. Please wait until power is restored before using the water.
Toilets & Plumbing: Due to the salty air, our water and waste systems on the island are far more susceptible to having issues than those in the U.S. To conserve water we utilize water-saver toilets which make them too delicate to handle anything out of the ordinary. For that reason we ask that you do not flush any foreign objects or personal hygiene products down the toilets!
Air Conditioning Units: Although the northside of St. Thomas receives a steady ocean breeze, there may be times that you want to use the air conditioners to cool down a bit more. AC units are provided in all bedrooms as well as 2 household units in the main living area. One common remote control will run both units in the living room/dining room areas.
Although these are provided for your added comfort, we do ask that you conserve energy by turning the units off when you are not in the room or when the room has been sufficiently cooled. The air conditioners do a very nice job of bringing down the temperature very quickly and the rooms will retain their coolness for some time after the unit is off.
